Rutalahti is a village surrounded by high hills and by the bay of lake Päijänne called Rutalahti. Our village is located about 40 km from Jyväskylä and 235 km from Helsinki.
About 200 people are living in Rutalahti. Most of them are working in Jyväskylä, the nearest town. On summer people come to their summer houses to spend their holidays.
We have very many activities in our village. In summertime we have an attractive dancing place called Letkaliiteri where you can dance every saturday. You can swim in the Lake Päijänne or fish on the river called Rutajoki. Or why don't you come and play volleyball with us on Thursday evenings at 7 pm on the yard of our villagehouse!
When visiting Rutalahti, it is a good idea to experience hiking trails called Koskikaran kierros and enjoy the beautiful rapids' there. There are also campfire place there in the beginning of the trail. The trail starts from opposite of Rutalahti School.
One the youngest National Park in Finland is near Rutalahti village called Leivonmäki National Park. The hiking trails and duckboards are ideal for family day trips, because of their suitable length and because they are not too demanding. There are several campfire places in the area, some of which have shelters. The National Park was established in the area of the former Haapasuo-Syysniemi nature reserve. Characteristic to the park are mires, shores and esker forests. In a relatively small area, there are valuable natural features in a diverse landscape.
